MATCH RACING
Match Racing with two nearly identical 80' "dinghies" is an experience that is not easily
forgotten. Whether the other yacht is manned by colleagues, business associates or competitors,
the participants will be treated to an exhilarating day of challenges and competition that will
tie bonds and leave memories for years to come.
An example of a day's activities:
The guests arrive at the dock.
Distribution of a cap, sweater or jacket marked with an
IL MORO logo and the logo of the hosting firm.
Description of the planned activities and a short explanation
of match racing.
A lottery to determine which yacht each guest is to sail on.
Each skipper holds a briefing concerning safety and
subsequently delegates tasks.
The yachts cast off and immediately hoist their sails.
An hour of practice to let the guests get a feel of their
primary tasks.
The yachts meet at the starting line at a previously
determined time.
Five to ten minutes of intense jockeying for the best
starting position.
The race gets underway - an air of competition and
excitement prevades.
Intense cooperation and hurried tactical dispositions
as the yachts pass within meters of each other.
Loud comments and cheering each time one of the maxis
gains a slight advantage.
The finish line is crossed with the yachts within a boat length
of each other.
After five or six hours of sailing the guests can be treated to excellent food and drink
onboard, anchored in a protected cove with the yachts moored next to each other. Alternatively
they can disembark at a seaside restaurant and exchange their remarks over dinner.
Any number of variations of this proposed program is possible - it's all up to you and your
related plans.
