ANTIGUA CLASSIC YACHT REGATTA
(April 20-25, 2006)
A spectacular sight !
In the 1999 event three "J" Class yachts competed for the first time ever. The winner of the Velsheda
trophy on corrected time was Shamrock V, although Velsheda proved to be fastest on the water while
Endeavour sustained rig damage preventing her from finishing two of the races.
This new trophy was donated by "Velsheda" for the best performance of a J Class yacht.
The organisers of the Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta would
like to hear from anyone interested in sponsorship of this prestigious event.
Objective:
To encourage owners and crews of classic and traditional yachts to sail alongside each other
on courses designed without the tight quarters of other events, so that racing is fun and safe
for hard-to-manage and older vessels. The emphasis is on sailing together rather than on racing.
Classes:
Traditional - Fishing, or Cargo vessels, built or converted to sail.
Vintage - Yachts with a full keel designed and launched before 1945
Classic - Yachts with a full keel designed and launched after 1945
Spirit Of Tradition - Yachts built recently with modern methods and design, but retaining the original grace and style of the old classics.
Tall Ships - Sail training and passenger vessels.
