VESTLANDET (the western land)
is a long stretch of the Norwegian coast that for practical purposes can be said to
run from Stavanger to Trondheim. It encompasses the most characteristic fjords
such as the
Sognefjord, the
Geirangerfjord and the Hardangerfjord. Halfway
into the latter is the Folgefonn glacier with year round skiing
and a breathtaking view. Waterfalls cascading into the sea, farms lodged
precariously on the mountainsides, endless inshore passages, isolated villages,
countless fascinating harbors, northern Europe's most diverse
bird sanctuary hosting over half a million birds of at least ten different species
each summer, fantastic scuba diving sites, etc. The list of attractions is almost endless.
Even two weeks is not long enough to cruise very quickly through this immense area,
but we will structure your designated time to include what you most want to see. Another
exciting possibility is a passage across the North Sea to friendly Shetland
(200 nautical miles).
